Loyola CS and SES Team wins Main Award at EPA Sustainable Communities Web Challenge

Loyola’s three-person team comprising Federico Sinche (SES faculty), Shriya Patel (SES undergrad), and Konstantin Läufer (CompSci faculty) has won the "best in show" (main) award at the US EPA and Code for America-sponsored 2021 Beyond Carbon - Sustainable Communities Web Challenge on Saturday, October 2nd. More information on the competition can be found here.

Their entry is a proof-of-concept that integrates information on several key SES projects with EPA data and other functionality, such as the commercial PurpleAir sensor network underlying the live air quality widget seen here.

This challenge is an initial step in Code for America, Code for All, and US EPA's joint effort to help communities become more sustainable by providing them with location-focused environmental impact data. Federico and Konstantin had just met at the faculty convocation two weeks earlier.

They are grateful to their colleague Jim Johnson for introducing them and setting this promising collaboration in motion!
