Loyola University Chicago has received a $50,000 interdisciplinary research award from the Dr. Scholl Foundation to investigate "Misinformation and Scams on Social Media." The team, consisting of Drs. Chan-Tin, Abuhamad, Stalans, Huntsinger, Forestal, and Cummings, is interdisciplinary from Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice & Criminology, Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology.
The project will explore how misinformation spreads online and how individuals are targeted through emerging scam tactics. This award will directly support students contributing to the research, providing hands-on opportunities in interdisciplinary methods, data analysis, and cybersecurity-focused social science.
